Pizza Feast Recipe
Basic Italian Bread Dough
1 tsp honey
1 walnut size piece of fresh yeast (or scant tbsp dried yeast)
10 fl oz (300 ml) hand hot water
1 tsp salt
1lb 2oz (500g) strong white flour
4 tbsp olive or rape seed oil
Cream yeast with honey, add water and mix. Sprinkle a tablespoon of flour on top and leave to stand for 15 minutes until frothy. If using dried yeast, stir into flour and allow a little more time to double in size.
Mix salt into flour and add yeast and olive oil. Combine and knead for 5 – 8 minutes until smooth. Place in an oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth and place in a warm place to double in size for about an hour. Knock back and knead lightly. The dough is then ready to use.
For pizza base: knead into a circular shape and with a rolling pin, roll out flat. Allow to prove slightly before adding toppings.
Suggested Toppings
Tinned chopped tomatoes (with or without herbs)
Grated Cheese (several varieties)
Slices of olive, tomatoes, tuna, ham, pineapple, peppers, sweetcorn, mushrooms, onions, salami, herbs.
Bake in hot oven for about 10 – 12 minutes until browning and topping is bubbling slightly.
